Mexico's president to discuss travel restrictions, vaccines with U.S. Vice President Harris.
Mexicos President Andrés Manuel López Obrador told reporters in his daily news conference, held Monday in Juárez, that he plans to discuss travel restrictions at the U.S./Mexico border and COVID-19 vaccine donations in a call with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
U.S. land ports of entry have been closed to non-essential travelers from Mexico and Canada since March 21, 2020, because of health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. has continuously extended those restrictions, with the latest extension going to Aug. 21.
Meanwhile, Canada reopened its border to vaccinated Americans who can show proof of a negative COVID-19 test as of 12:01 a.m. Monday. Americans have faced no travel restrictions going to Mexico throughout the length of the pandemic.
Much depends on how (Monday's) call goes, López Obrador said. We have to take into consideration that in both the U.S. and Mexico there is a new wave of contagion.
