Noticias Telemundo interviewed the famous drug trafficker imprisoned for the murder of DEA agent Enrique 'Kiki' Camarena: it is the first time he has spoken to a media outlet in the 32 years he has been in jail. "I have no prognosis for life," says the founder of the Guadalajara Cartel.

He is an elderly man, in a wheelchair, who fights against ailments while trying to tell his story. "My health is terrible, my family is making a hole for me to be buried in a tree," says Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, 75, founder of the Guadalajara Cartel, one of the first drug trafficking organizations in Mexico.

"I have no prognosis of life, since I lost everything. I lost my sensitivity, ears, eyes," explains Félix Gallardo in an exclusive interview with Noticias Telemundo, in the maximum security zone of the Puente Grande state prison, Jalisco. This is the first time that the 'Jefe de jefes' breaks the media silence during his long 32-year prison confinement.

Although he usually denies the accusations against him, Félix Gallardo was arrested in 1989 as part of the investigation into the murder of Enrique 'Kiki' Camarena Salazar, an agent of the United States Drug Control Administration (DEA). Among other charges, he was accused of weapons collection, bribery, health crimes and homicide. He was also sentenced for crimes such as drug trafficking and money laundering.

"The Godfather" of Mexican cocaine, Félix Gallardo spent 18 years growing his narcotics empire. But the brutal murder of an undercover DEA agent who infiltrated his cartel would be his demise.

He’s been hailed “The Bill Gates of Cocaine” and fascinated many for his complex depiction in Netflix’s drug drama, Narcos: Mexico. But Félix Gallardo is far from innocent. “El Padrino” or “The Godfather” has written as much in his own prison diary, published by Gatopardo magazine in 2009 under the headline “Diaries of the Boss of Bosses.”

As a former leader of the Guadalajara Cartel, Gallardo wrote openly about trafficking cocaine, marijuana, and heroin, as well as recounted the day of his capture by Mexican authorities. With a tinge of nostalgia, he even referred to himself as one of the “old capos.” But he denied any part in the brutal murder and torture of DEA agent Kiki Camarena, the crime for which he is still currently in prison.

In Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico, Félix Gallardo’s transformation into a ruthless drug dealer seems almost accidental. In reality, the Guadalajara Cartel leader was the “boss of the bosses” whose eventual arrest triggered a massive drug war.
