Groups for the defense of human rights and families of prisoners at the Formiga (MG) penitentiary denounced violations that were allegedly committed by criminal agents within the place.
Images that Folha had access to show dozens of men lined up, some of them handcuffed, sitting naked in the courtyard.
The scene took place on the 22nd, during the approach of the Rapid Intervention Group of the Criminal Police, linked to the State Secretariat for Justice and Public Security (SEJUSP).
In some photos, it is possible to see the prison director, Ronaldo Antônio Gomides, walking around the place, while the group observes the detainees in degrading conditions.

Associations for the defense of human rights and family members of prisoners at the Formiga penitentiary, in the central-west region of Minas Gerais, denounced violations that had been committed by criminal agents within the place.

The scene would have occurred on the 22nd, during the approach of the Rapid Intervention Group (GIR) of the Criminal Police, linked to the State Department of Justice and Public Security (Sejusp). In some photos, it is still possible to see the prison director, Ronaldo Antônio Gomides, in a pink T-shirt and jeans, walking around the place, while the group observes the inmates in degrading conditions.
According to Maria Tereza dos Santos, president of the Association of Friends and Families of Persons Deprived of Liberty in Minas Gerais, the intervention took place after the inmates demanded improvements in the prison conditions. The list of demands included an improvement in the quality of food offered, greater availability of water and a return to the pre-pandemic visiting system.
The detainees were said to have been in these conditions from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, she said. “When they complained, the rapid intervention group entered the cell, made all the prisoners take off their clothes, go out to the courtyard naked and sit on the cold, dirty floor. Those who complained were still handcuffed and beaten,” he said.
