Russia receives Venezuela's 'strong support'
https://news.yahoo.com/russia-receives-venezuelas-strong-support-223757533.html
In rare backing for Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday assured Vladimir Putin of his "strong support" in a telephone call, according to a Kremlin statement.
In the call initiated by Caracas, the Venezuelan leader also condemned "destabilizing actions of the United States and NATO" and spoke out against a Western campaign of "lies and disinformation," it said. Dozens of people have been killed and nearly 680,000 have fled Ukraine since Putin ordered his troops into the country last week after failing to get guarantees that NATO will not expand its military alliance eastward. In the call with Maduro, Putin insisted the objectives of the military assault were to "protect the civilian population" of the Donbass separatist region and to get Kiev to recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea, which it annexed in 2014. Does this really surprise anyone? One dictator supporting another dictator. Maduro, as usual, is on the wrong side of history. ![]()

Nice to see Pete those folks have either left or have pulled their heads out of their butts.

4. Let's see our Florida delegation cozy up with Putin now
that he’s in bed with Venezuela’s left wingers. Oil makes strange bedfellows.

6. After Putin's debacle in Ukraine,
I don't think he's going to be building any military bases, or stationing any military assets any where any time soon, if he even survives this cluster fuck he started.

7. Any Argument, Sir, For What Putin Is Doing In Ukraine
Can be turned to use by the United States in regards to Venezuela. He's essentially saying Washington has every right to interfere with and dominate his own land....

8. True,
but I don't think Pres. Biden would do to Venezuela what Putin is doing to Ukraine and, as I said up thread, I highly doubt that Putin will be in any position to send any military assets into our hemisphere.
With any luck, the only position he'll soon be in is lying on his back in a coffin. |

9. Not Saying He Would, Sir
But our government has taken efforts to destabilize Venezuela, including procurement of at least one coup attempt against the late Col. Chavez, and a more recent fizzle with a small body of mercenaries. My point is simply that arguments in favor of such actions against Venezuela are identical with those employed by Putin in Ukraine. It is no more our business if, say, a Venezuelan government hosts a Chinese naval base than it is Putin's whether or not Ukraine joins the European Union, or for that matter becomes a member of NATO.

11. Then It Works Both Ways, Sir
This is just something the 'anti-imperialist' faction needs reminding of on occasion, that the United States is hardly to sole power with imperial reach and ambitions, and all such use identical justifications for what they do.
It is true enough that relations between states were well summed up at Melos millennia ago --- the strong do what they will, the weak suffer what they must. But if an action's root is nothing more than 'I'm bigger, and you're nearby', one ought to have the character to say so clearly. |
