17 June, 2022
The Chilean government is embarking on a new search for those disappeared during the Pinochet era, something that President Boric has been advocating since the start of his election campaign. The initiative includes fresh investments in technology, professional personnel, and collaborations with the countrys armed forces. Chiles Minister of Justice is hopeful that under Boric the program will finally have the financial-backing needed to get the job done.
The Chilean government is launching a new search program for hundreds of people disappeared during the 17-year Pinochet dictatorship in Chile.
One of the primary planks in Gabriel Borics presidential campaign was achieving reconciliation and closure for the disappeared. During his national speech on June 1, he reassured Chileans that his administration is going to continue searching tirelessly for the disappeared through a National Search Plan.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations released a report which details the exact numbers of disappeared persons. The report describes their disappearance as a product of the serious and systemic human rights violations committed by the military dictatorship between 1973 and 1990.
The current list consists of 1,469 people: 1,092 detainees who disappeared and 377 politicians who were executed but their bodies were never released

(160,515 posts)We won't forget US monster President Richard M Nixon with Kissinger placed bloody puppet dictator in office to overturn the Chilean people's election of a socialist President Salvador Allende, either.
Thank you, so much.

I hope someone remembers your name
Where have you gone desaparecido
How can they just turn their backs to our shame
Where have you gone desaparecido
I taste your blood in the roots of this land
Where have you gone desaparecido
Mi querido, only yesterday I held your hand

(160,515 posts)Sorry to admit I never saw him without Bruce Springsteen, then saw him in the Sopranos. This is a whole new, very large dimension. I'm going to look in YouTube for more of his work, now. I saw a couple of titles after this song was over, and they were so good before I knew he did them, too!
He is a phenomenon, and he's not wrong to use the word, "soul" at all. He's far more a people person than ordinary musicians, too, invests far more of himself, along with his amazing skills.
Well, you've opened up a whole experience for those of us who didn't know what we had been missing.
I love that he shared what he apparently noticed long ago about corruption and politics! What a treat to see him spreading the news to a lot of people who haven't taken the time to wake up, yet!
Thank you, some more! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👋

(3,396 posts)Steven is an old school hardcore liberal from way back, and hes never been afraid to speak, or sing, his mind. Hes also an expert on American culture and music. Google on Little Stevens Underground Garage to find his podcasts, which are also broadcast on his Sirius radio channel. The man is a true intellectual.
More? Okay, one more. Imagine youre not by definition a reggae artist, but you record a reggae song, and an internationally famous reggae band sees fit to cover it. Quite a compliment, no? Heres Stevens song Solidarity.
The song was then covered by Black Uhuru, which was at the time about the biggest reggae band in the world. This was the incarnation of the band with Sly and Robbie. It was a big hit for them.
So happy to turn someone new on to the greatness that is Little Steven Van Zandt.

(160,515 posts)They seem completely bonded with it, too.
Because of the Black Uhuru video, I will want to find some of their other songs, too!
I did a quick google check on Steven Van Zandt, and saw that he has been a songwriter, producer, etc., etc.
He has done so much work, and clearly does a lot of reading and thinking, as well!
Social activists who are musicians have always reached so many people, throughout the world. In the Americas some have even been murdered for their activism, others had to flee when they learned they were on the governments' lists for assassination. It takes a ton of courage.
Looking forward to discovering more of this music with purpose!
Thank you, again, C.C.Rocker.
