I remember reading articles years ago about United Fruit and the terrible things they has done.

In recent years the Cavendish, the sole commercial breed of banana that was resistant to TR4 or Panama Disease, has become infected with the fungal disease. TR4 has become a pandemic in some areas of the world.

BBC has an article on the potential impact of TR4. I can't find a date for it, but it mentions something that happened in 2019, so it must be fairly recent.
