Todd Shapera has traveled eight times to Cuba since the Caribbean country opened to outsiders back in 2016.

A Pleasantville photographer was honored at the ArtsWestchester Arts Award Celebration Wednesday for his photos documenting the lives of Cuban farmworkers.

Each visit, he’s backpacked the backroads of the country to meet Cuban farmers and document their lives with a camera.

Shapera was awarded the ArtsWestchester's Larry Salley Photography Award.

"I'm fascinated with the lives that other people live, and especially lives that are challenging and difficult in ways we can't even imagine,” Shapera said.
