"Everyone can get a free copy of their credit report yearly at freecreditreport.com. Its the ONLY site backed by the govt thats really free & accurate. The better option is to just pick 1 of the 3 and get the report, then 4 months later get it from the 2nd one and so on. that way you can get 3 free reports each year."

Experian owns freecreditreport.com and only gives you Experian. Used to promote a comprehensive report that you could get "for free" with a "trial" to some credit monitoring service that was hard to get out of.

From: https://www.ftc.gov/faq/consumer-protection/get-my-free-credit-report

You're entitled to one free copy of your credit report every 12 months from each of the three nationwide credit reporting companies. Order online from annualcreditreport.com, the only authorized website for free credit reports, or call 1-877-322-8228. You will need to provide your name, address, social security number, and date of birth to verify your identity.
