Violence against men news feed

It is time that violence against men be highlighted as just that. I want to start a place for news stories that show the violence directed against men so that it is no longer invisible or disguised. The fact is that men growing up face violence a hell of a lot. It is a man's issue because, as a boy or man, we need to learn how to deal with the constant threat of physical intimidation or violence.

Please post news here that brings this constant threat to people's conscious minds.

This is not a pissing contest with women. It is a FACT of men's lives.

SC Trooper Charged for Shooting Unarmed Man

NEWSER) – Officials say a former South Carolina state trooper is charged with a felony in the shooting of an unarmed man during a traffic stop earlier this month. The SC Law Enforcement Division says in a news release that 31-year-old Sean Groubert was charged yesterday with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Authorities say Groubert stopped a driver in Columbia for a seat belt violation on Sept. 4. The man got out of his car, and investigators say the trooper shot him as he reached back into his vehicle. Groubert was fired last week.

Prosecutors released video of the traffic stop that shows the trooper asking the driver for his license, then firing several shots as the man reaches back into his vehicle. The man then screams, "What did I do?" and tells the trooper he was just trying to get his license. Groubert says he shot the man because he was reaching back into his car.

1. No indictment in Walmart shooting; DOJ to investigate

XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) – The Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice will now conduct an independent review of facts surrounding the Beavercreek Walmart shooting. It will look for any violations of federal criminal civil rights statutes stemming from the August 5 shooting that took the life of John Crawford III.

A special Greene County Grand Jury declined to hand down an indictment against two police officers involved in the shooting.

The grand jury was comprised of nine jurors. At least seven jurors must agree to indict. It declined to indict Sergeant David Darkow and Officer Sean Williams on any criminal charges.

Special Prosecutor Mark Piepmeier walked the media through the August 5 shooting incident inside the store, including use of the controversial surveillance video from inside the store.grand jury

It shows John Crawford III walking around the aisles with the toy weapon in his hands. It later shows the police officers approaching him. You can see how Crawford interacted with officers, but also the 911 caller who warned police of what was happening. 2 NEWS elected not to show the portion of the video that shows John Crawford being shot. It is a decision made out of respect to the family and to viewers like you.

Even though John Crawford III was only holding a BB gun he picked up—IN A STORE THAT SELLS BB GUNS.

Even though it was an open carry state.

Even though he was on the phone when police officers opened fire on him.

Even though he was shot in the back.

Even though the cops lied and were caught in a lie because of the subsequent video.

A grand jury who, when added together, obviously didn’t have half a gnat’s brain, declined to indict the officers.

The message here?

It has been, is, and always will be open season on black people for as long as white supremacy is the philosophie du jour.

In case you are unaware, the grand jury did not rule for any indictment.

Let me share that this is about 15 minutes long...shows John browsing, shopping and talking a lot on his cell phone. He was in his own zone...it truly looked as if he was taken totally by surprise in my opinion. You judge for yourself. Shooting is at the very end.

this one has me so very angry. we are mostly all aware of it, but still, i think this belongs.

i agree. i have a 17 and 19 yr old who are in this world. it is something they struggle to find the balance in. big thumbs up to exposure.

Adding black to the equation doubles down the risk.

Killing of John Crawford: Injustice for all

(CNN) -- Police gunned down John Crawford, 22, in a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio, on August 4. Recently released surveillance video, synced with a recording of the 911 call, reveals the blatant dishonesty and falsehoods that led to his death as he talked on his cellphone in the pet aisle, casually holding a pellet gun that he had picked up from a shelf in the store.

...

In the 911 call, we hear Ronald Ritchie repeatedly telling the operator that Crawford is pointing "a gun" at people. At one point, he tells the operator that Crawford is "loading it right now" and that "he just pointed it at, like, two children."

...

At no point in the surveillance video did Crawford point the air rifle at anyone. He did not "load it." And when police encountered Crawford, they shot him almost immediately.
