What's a good pistol to buy?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by lumberjack_jeff (a host of the Men's Group group).

I used to have a 22 target pistol a while ago and it was lots of fun, but sold it when I moved about six years ago. What's a good pistol to buy for target shooting and home defense? I'm looking for something inexpensive to buy and easy to maintain, but high quality. Any suggestions?

I am old school and use a 1911A.

A Ruger Bull Barrel is a great target pistol and well placed .22LR will discourage all but the most determined home invaders.
