Google barge headed to San Diego?

The mysterious Google barge - which is generating buzz in the Bay Area - is creating a bit of intrigue in San Diego as well.

The large vessel has been under construction at a Treasure Island pier. Last month, technology website CNET broke a story that Google was behind it - though the search engine giant declined to comment at the time. That sparked speculation about what Google was up to, with some thinking the barge would be used as a data center.

Now, a limited liability company called By and Large has submitted a preliminary proposal to the Port of San Francisco to operate the barge in the Bay Area as a floating technology exhibit. In those documents, By and Large mentions that the barge would be prepped for a San Diego tour in late 2014.

Google is listed as the corporation behind By and Large LLC in the port proposal. It recently acknowledged its involvement.
