(15,805 posts)Education and training is the only solution to get the necessary skill sets needed to become a marketable asset in today's high tech job market. A high school diploma in America just isn't enough, it only indicates that a person should have attained -- maybe -- the basic ability to read, write and do simple arithmetic.
While US schools are gnawing such vital issues at how many people could fit on the back of a dinosaur, or the hoax of climate change, and the magical properties of a woman's vagina, our foreign competitors are teaching science and higher math skills to grade schoolers.

(4,667 posts)We need to invest more time in education and lifelng learning, and accept that jobs as we knew them in the labor intensive 20th century are going away for good. Unless we reaise the level of learning and knowledge we'll be flirting with full unemployment in the 21st century in not too long.
Most people will be unemployable without not just modern tech skills. The very sparse workpaces of tomorrow will need a very advanced level of skills, heavy on math and science..

(17,301 posts)Until they do, there are plenty jobs to be had.
With every new technology there are new and different jobs. True you may not be able to find a job sewing underwear in 2055 but there will be plenty of jobs making and fixing the machines.
At every new invention, people claim all the jobs will go away, yet we still have plenty of jobs. What we have to realize is that there are millions and millions and millions of factory workers. But they are NOT in the US. Germany isn't the only place that has them. Check out China and India for millions of factory workers. The uber rich decided NOT to give those factory jobs to Americans anymore. But they sure as hell sell the results to Americans.
