2018 "Now is not the end" Edition: Welcome to the Economy Group!

"We have a new experience. We have victory - a remarkable and definite victory.

I have never promised anything but blood, tears, toil, and sweat. Now, however, the bright gleam has caught the helmets of our soldiers, and warmed and cheered all our hearts.

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning." - Winston Churchill (November 10, 1942)

Drawn from: http://www.churchill-society-london.org.uk/EndoBegn.html

I have chosen this Veteran's Day to comment on the events of the past week in our nation's political history and I've chosen this particular quote to convey a point. Yes, Winston Churchill was not an American, but, his foe is the same as our modern threat here in the United States, fear and tyranny.

Do not let anyone tell you what was accomplished by you on this last Tuesday was anything short of a tremendous victory of historic proportions. It was.

Savor it. Cherish it. Revel in it.

Now, double it. This victory was a battle and the war must be won.

There are still children in cages. There are still elements trying to destroy our democratic institutions. Threats to our health and well being. These challenges must be eliminated.

The good news is the way will be easier. Built as they are on the foundations of this victory. Voting will become more straightforward and our voices will be heard.

All I can ask is that you do what I plan to do and march forward to 2020 and beyond.

I will repeat what I said prior to Tuesday and I mean it as much or more now as I did then:

Voting.

It's the lifeblood of a democracy and also of a democratic economy. If you look closely, you'll notice voting is built right into the definition of the word democracy itself. Voting is how we peacefully make our desires known and ultimately acted upon.

Voting.

Is also not a singular event in our lives such as, "I went to Oregon once." It is a lifestyle like, "I enjoy eating chocolate. Therefore, I must continue obtaining delicious chocolate to eat. Mmm..."

Voting.

The most common refrain I've been hearing since the debacle in 2016 has been, "They're going to steal it anyway, so, why bother voting." Well, I'll tell you why. Don't make it easy for them. If you do nothing else, make them steal it and continue making them steal it. You may not get exactly what you want this time or the next. But, eventually, if you and all of the people who agree with you keep asserting yourselves through your voice of voting, you will win. It's a lifestyle.

You must vote every time you are given a chance.

On to the business of the DU Economy Group.

This statement is as relevant as ever:

Our intention is that the group is welcoming to all, inclusive to differing points of view on topics covering national/international issues related to and affecting our personal and national economic well being.

It is great to see that in addition to the perennial SMW feature (many thanks to the maintainers and regular contributors to that feature) that there are many who come to the Economy Group to post articles and threads of interest. Thanks for those and please keep them coming!

Always remember to keep a place for those affected by natural and man-made disasters in your thoughts and actions.

To the right of the Blue "Post a Thread to this Group" button is a lighter blue button that says "About This Group"
Clicking on it will describe the host moderation functions and identify the current hosts of the group.
