T-Mobile and Sprint approve $26.5B merger

FCC Officially Approves Massive $26B T-Mobile and Sprint Merger

The Federal Communications Commission has voted to formally approve the massive $26.5 billion T-Mobile and Sprint merger on Wednesday.

That vote comes just a few months after the Department of Justice gave T-Mobile and Sprint the green light to continue with the deal. Before that DoJ decision in July, the merger spent more than a year stuck in regulatory limbo.

While FCC Chairman Ajit Pai suggested that he would vote to approve the deal back in May, support for the merger wasn’t unanimous among FCC commissioners. The vote passed along party lines with the two Democrat commissioners dissenting, an FCC source told The Verge (though an official statement has yet to be released).

One of the Democratic commissioners, Jessica Rosenworcel, expressed her disapproval in an op-ed for The Atlantic today. In the piece, she says the deal will only hurt consumers by driving up prices and reducing competition. [snip]

Oh yeah, more winning on the way for regular workers and/or consumers - NOT!

I am afraid that this merger is going to translate into the mega merger company sucking.

Think of the United Airlines and Continental merger....while many may disagree, I as a long time flyer (especially internationally) found that United was at one time a great airline and that Continental always sucked.

United is not the United it once was - it died - what was left was the sucky company Continental that branded itself with the United name.

Just talk to a United employee sometime - especially one that used to be a United employee before the merger....assuming they even exist anymore and didn't leave in protest or early retirement - it sucks.

I am afraid this will now happen with any remnants of T-Mobile and what we will be left with is shitty Sprint.

A sad day for mobile users and the options for us.

There are areas that are not completely covered and some dropped calls here and there, but the price is right and it does what I want for the most part. I will wait and see how this all shakes out, but I can go elsewhere as well.
