Macys is closing all of its stores nationwide, effective at the end of business Tuesday through March 31, to try to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
The closures include all Macys, Bloomingdales, Bluemercury, Macys Backstage and other outlet stores, the company said in a press release. Macys said it will offer benefits and compensation to its affected workers during this time.
The health and safety of our customers, colleagues and communities is our utmost priority, CEO Jeff Gennette said in a statement.
As a result of the recent COVID-19 developments, we have decided to temporarily close our stores. We will work with government and health officials to assess when we will reopen our stores and safely bring our colleagues back to work.
Macys said its online operations will remain open for business throughout March.

(4,112 posts)1. Macy's is my company's biggest customer
We got strategic and stopped shipments so we wouldn't be stuck with unsaleable or heavily marked-down merchandise. Hoping it's enough to save our business to retrench in the fall.

Sadly many stores and restaurants that only intent to close temporarily may never re-open.
