Friday morning rail news:

NRE consolidating operations to two sites

NRE, which sells and leases new and remanufactured locomotives and components, and provides overhaul and maintenance services, will consolidate operations to its headquarters location in Mt. Vernon, Ill, as well as its shops in Paducah, Ky. Operations at Dixmoor, Ill., Silvis, Ill, and Milwaukee will relocate to those locations, and the company’s Hagerstown, Md., operation will move to a new facility adjacent to the Paducah shop to provide services including manufacture and rebuilding of diesel power assemblies. Pat Frangella, executive committee leader, said in a press release that the plan “will significantly streamline our operations, while maintaining all of our service offerings for our customers around the globe.”

With the Number of Carloads in steep decline, Not surprised. Not sure of the Number of Non Tier 4 Loco's parked on Dead Lines, best guess in the thousands now. Re-man Loco's are most likely dirt cheap as a result. Several Hundred UP loco's parked on abandoned Branch lines along I-10 in Arizona. BNSF has hundreds Parked outside Bill Wyoming because of lack of Coal hauls. If one follows live feeds via U Tube, one will see Funeral Trains as a common video.

It is either NRE or Consolidated or other Scrapers. Same for wrecked Rail Cars, they just cut them up on site rather than repair them.
