Trump administration appeals court order blocking TikTok restrictions
Commerce department order banning transactions with the app was to take effect on Thursday

The US justice department said it had appealed against a judges order that blocked the government from imposing restrictions on Chinese-owned TikTok that were set to take effect on Thursday.
The commerce departments August restrictions order was to take effect late in the day, barring transactions with the video sharing app that its Chinese owner, ByteDance, had warned would have effectively barred its use in the United States.
The commerce department said on 1 November that it would comply with the Pennsylvania judge Wendy Beetlestones order, but would vigorously defend its actions.
TikTok did not immediately comment on the governments appeal to the US third circuit.
Beetlestone enjoined the agency from barring data hosting within the United States for TikTok, content delivery services and other technical transactions.

(24,467 posts)3. What's the problem with Tik Tok?
Other than there a lot of users who make internet video's that make fun of Trump. What is the national security implications with the app?

(61,881 posts)4. The stated concern is that a Chinese-owned company handles personal data of 100m Americans.
Critics also accuse TikTok of being a surveillance and espionage tool, but nobody has proven that yet.
On top of paranoia and nationalism, Trump just couldn't resist an opportunity for a shakedown.

(24,467 posts)5. Thanks for clarifying.
Not exactly sure what intel China could gain from a lot of the TikTok video's or even the user's users personal data, but I really don't use it, except to watch an occasional post here on DU.
