(43,148 posts)One targeting a bottom near Nasdaq 4100, the other pointed to that general area but noting it is a head and shoulders pattern on the S&P so there could be more downside. He thinks the overall market will rally until the Treasury 10 year yield crosses the expected stock yield. Other experts play sectors and asset classes. A lot seems to depend on what happens to the dollar, energy, and China, which has me in a slump. Happy trading!

(17,857 posts)I've posted similar queries in the past, but I think maybe it's time to do this again, given all the "hidden" billions and so on.
Bear with me, 'cause I don't have a degree in economics. I may say stupid things.
So, okay, Zuckerberg and Bezos and the like are all worth many many billions. So many billions they don't know what to do with them other than blast off into space. My question is, Where are all the billions coming from?
Obviously, the companies make money, but in terms of Facebook in particular, there's no physical product being manufactured and/or sold. True, they gather data from users and sell that, and I suppose they make significant profit off that, but not a trillion dollars.
Is the trillion actually the value of the stock? And does Zuckerberg only have billions because he holds millions of shares? And if for some reason the value of those shares drops to like pennies a share, is Zuckerberg suddenly less than a millionaire? Where did the money go?
Or was there never any money to begin with?
One inquiring mind wants to know.
