Endangered on the picket line, and then fired?! (gofundme)

A driver steered a Tesla into a picket line outside New Seasons Market in Portland―and New Seasons fired the worker who was nearly hit!

These are attempts to intimidate striking workers―from management and from Elon Musk superfans―but they won’t work. Our community knows how to pull together in solidarity with workers who are fired for organizing a union.

We’ll get into the details but first, if you can, please consider a donation to Jasper’s GoFundMe. Every donation matters and will help Jasper cover the basics while they get back on their feet.

Thankfully, the striking workers got out of the way in time. But the driver left their vehicle, slapped a picketer, spat on Jasper, and then complained to management that they felt threatened. New Seasons Market fired Jasper without taking into account eyewitness statements and unedited camera footage of the attack.

The union sees this firing for what it is: retaliation against Jasper for engaging in protected union activity. After Jasper’s termination, workers marched on management demanding their reinstatement and filed unfair labor practice charges against New Seasons.

New Seasons Labor Union is an independent and unaffiliated union of New Seasons Market workers at eleven stores. New Seasons has been dragging its feet on bargaining for two years. Jasper was accosted on the picket line while New Seasons workers were on a one-day strike and calling for customers to boycott New Seasons until unionized workers win their contract.

But management still hasn’t moved to reinstate Jasper, and the legal process is a long one. Right now, Jasper is in immediate need of funds to cover basics like rent, bills, and groceries. Can you make a donation to their GoFundMe today?

We’ll be in touch soon with other ways to take action in solidarity with Jasper and New Seasons Labor Union. Until then, thank you for supporting Jasper directly during this hard time.

In solidarity,

The Labor Force

Unfortunately it was done by fellow workers who crossed and went back to work. We were the most northern picket line in the 2004 grocery strike so we had a very icy parking lot (Mamothh Lakes CA).
Many crossed and went back, others got temporary jobs and did not walk the strike line. We were down to about ten people who kept the line manned. It infuriated those who crossed and they harassed us on a daily basis. Management tried to have both my husband and me arrested. Didn't work. We ended up moving and finding new jobs. It was a small town with small minds. But we walked that picket line till the end of the strike.
