BNSF reaches deal with OSHA

BNSF Railway has changed its policies on workplace injuries and whistle-blowers as part of an agreement with regulators.

The federal Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced the pact with BNSF Tuesday.

OSHA said BNSF's policies violated whistle-blower provisions of the Federal Railroad Safety Act and discouraged injury reporting.

The railroad, owned by Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway, will also require managers to review cases where an employee who reported an injury is disciplined.
