Cereal maker Kellogg's locks out US union to force expansion of disposable jobs

Transnational cereal maker Kellogg's has locked out 220 members of the IUF-affiliated BCTGM since October 22 at its factory in Memphis, Tennessee to force unon acceptance of a plan to radically increase the use of casual workers.

Kellogg's are proposing to hire some 30% of the current workforce at significantly lower pay and benefits over the next 3 years with no guaranteed hours. The company has organized this assault while the Master Agreement of 2012, which limits casual work, is still in force.

3. They still don't "get it" in Corporate America...

1: Reagan was not "the most popular president in history" and CERTAINLY wasn't so because he demonized and busted unions.

2: PR still matters and right now is a really BAD TIME to give in to greed.

3: The public KNOWS profits are at an all time high so screaming "poverty" to justify a crackdown on workers isn't going to fly.

4: People are getting fed up with bought politicians and ANY money you send can be traced.

5: Jimmy Hoffa is long gone so you can't keep making out like unions are the mob,...THIS is what people think of when you say, "Fat Tony".

but the uneducated (most) citizens will probably support Kellogg citing the increased amount of workers that can be employed.
We are already a third world nation in the South and Union pay creates class envy, not the well deserved profits of the non-working, "big boys."

The cost of living goes up and up and up through time, all the while The Corporation drives wages lower and lower and lower. You know, back when they passed those job sucking trade treaties (GATT, NAFTA, etc.), I heard what Ross Perot was saying and it seemed what they were trying to do was lower our standard of living. It's what GHWB meant by "New World Order." He and Bill Clinton forgot to tell the American People what they meant by that phrase. I wondered what the hell they meant by that term. Now we know, for sure, what they meant.

14. So many reasons not to buy this junk...now we have one more.

Cereal prices have gone through the roof. It is expensive. And isn't that oh-so interesting when the GMO crap that these cereals are made from--has never been more plentiful. Why, we've been constantly told that GMOs increase food and crop production. If basic supply/demand applies here, then cereal prices should be falling.

They're not. The price of a box of cereal has more than doubled in the past seven years. Companies like this are just greedy bastards.

Ready-to-eat cereal is expensive, full of unhealthy GMOs, sugar and fat. Now, it appears that Kellogg's is a greedy, sociopathic company that doesn't value their workers and instead, is contributing to creating a peasant class that is desperate and easily controllable by the billionaires at the top of these companies.

I'd say there's MORE than enough reasons to stop buying this junk.

Eggs are economical and nutritious. So are bananas, peanut butter or steel-cut oats.

We don't have to eat this junk.
