Missouri legislators vote to lower workers’ wages

Jefferson City – Buoyed by an overwhelming Republican majority, the Missouri House, for the first time ever, approved a right-to-work bill Feb. 12 that curbs union rights.

The state’s Workforce Standards and Development Committee also took up two paycheck deception measures, also sponsored by Republicans.

The right-to-work measure combines House Bills HB116 and HB569 and would apply to all unions. But the 91-64 vote was far short of the 109 needed to withstand a veto from Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.

The measure is moving to the Missouri Senate, where it faces a possible Democratic filibuster.

3. You can get an idea by looking south of Missouri border to Arkansas.

Missouri did pass a bill that would have barred selected Federal Agencies from enforcement in Missouri, Nixon vetoed it. Republicans knew it was unconstitutional. It was also secession although it did not use the specific wording. The border State Missouri never really learned the lessons from the 1860's. It is good that Lincoln's grave is encased in concrete the sound of him spinning must be unsettling.

2. The stupid - it spreads, from Kansas to Missouri, that is.

I used to visit an old friend who'd been transferred to KCMO (Kansas City MO) for several years - a great city in many ways, but the hatred of all things liberal, and the racism of many of the locals with whom she worked (throughout the state) really upset her. Typically these bigots were minimally educated and abysmally untraveled. In other words, so very easily manipulated by fear-mongering Republicans.

2 of KCMO's 3 congressmen are Republican.

The current Governor of Missouri is Democrat Jay Nixon. He was sworn into the Office of Governor on January 12th, 2009. Jay Nixon is 59 years old and serving his second elected term as Governor.
His Missouri Gubernatorial seat will be up for regular election on November 8th, 2016.
Jay Nixon is not eligible for re-election in 2016 due to state term restrictions.
