Union organizers set to try again in S.C., this time with list of Boeing workers

Organizers are regrouping for another attempt to unionize Boeing’s North Charleston Dreamliner plant, this time armed with a new tool: a list of Boeing employees.

The list of employees – which Boeing was required to share after the National Labor Relations Board approved plans for what was to have been an April election – will help organizers directly contact workers.

“Knowing who they are is going to be a better way to judge their support,” said Mike Evans, the lead union organizer in North Charleston. “We’ll be able to talk to everybody.”

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers canceled the election on April 17, citing what Evans at the time said were threats at gunpoint, and a “dangerous” atmosphere while canvassing for votes.

While Evans this week conceded that passage was looking unlikely at the time the union canceled the vote, he argued that this was partly due to what he called “misinformation,” including a rumor workers' health insurance would be canceled until a new contract took effect.

“It was a lot of information that was having people who were supporting us give pause,” he said. “We really want to be sure people are going to vote understanding the facts."

It's as close to the third world as they can get in America.

Come on Boeing workers, show some courage, have some faith in your ability to direct your workplace, get yourselves educated, learn the facts, and when the time comes VOTE UNION! Its' the American way to vote for the most democratic organization you could join.
