Homeschooling
Related: About this forumOnline schools are not homeschooling.
It's school at home.
If you're using parts of online classes as supplements, that's one thing, but to have your whole curriculum mandated and taught just like in a classroom, only over a computer and in your den, well that's just schooll. Albeit you have the advantage of your own speed, and not dealing with bullies, etc... But that's about it. Don't let others confuse the two.
It gives homeschooling a bad name!

(46,438 posts)We've been having difficulty locating a geometry program that isn't "Christian based", whatever the heck that means. So we're going to try Thinkwell's online course, to see if we like it. I'm not wild about having someone else teach my son, but at least we'll be there to help clarify things where necessary. We'll see...

(18,991 posts)There is a whole new realm of homeschooling I have yet to discover. We are still unschooling at this point and may continue until I get to something I don't know well enough to teach him.
Puzzling...why would anything about geometry need to be sanitized for Christians?

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
