...to make ethanol farms and hydroelectric facilities.

I wrote about the former sometime ago elsewhere, including a sad riff on the self immolation (in protest) of the environmental activist Francisco Anselmo de Barros: Those Happy Sugarcane Workers In Brazil: The Car Culture and Urinary Carcinogens.

I'm not sure that there will be a Pantanal all that far into the future, which is a shame, because it is - or maybe was - the world's largest wetland.

It's beautiful, and thank you for the reference, but it's too sad to contemplate.
