Less than a week after three southern resident orcas were reported missing and presumed dead, some good news for whale followers.
Southern resident whales were spotted off the coast of Vancouver Island -- with two babies among them -- the first time in a while that the pods were seen in Pacific Northwest waters.
Killer whales from all three resident pods were spotted at around 2:15 p.m., according to an encounter report by the Center for Whale Research.
"From the spread, we guessed that the entire clan was there," observers Mark Malleson and Joe Zelweitro said in the CWR report.
J31 and her calf J56 were spotted, as well as L124 and mother L77.
