Global energy watchdog issues warning in climate forecast for the next two decades

The world’s thirst for oil will continue to grow over the next two decades, with climate-damaging emissions climbing until at least 2040, the global energy watchdog has warned, pointing the finger at the growing appetite for gas-guzzling cars.

Growing demand for SUVs in the US, China, Europe and elsewhere could negate all the environmental benefits of the increased use of electric cars, the International Energy Agency (IEA) says. Because of their size, SUVs are harder to electrify than smaller vehicles.

1. Plus I read recently that US oil reserves are estimated to last only another ten years...

If so, that could drastically alter our prices and consumption.

However I did a little more reading and it looks like the figure they were using is the proven reserves to production ratio, which is not the same as an estimate of when a resource like oil will be exhausted, since the ratio does not take into account expansion of proven reserves.

2. No problem.... electric SUV's....

Or at least hybrid versions.. Most suv's are just glorified station wagons anyway. Not many reach the "dirt" status.... Toyota RAV 4 hybrid is a good example along with the new Honda CRV hybrid...
