Money Quotes In "Planet Of The Humans" A Decade Or More Old Re. Energy Costs And Impacts

EDIT

The movie also quotes prices for solar power installations and conversion factors that are over a decade out of date. The worst sin of all for CleanTechnica readers is that the movie pumps air into the pernicious myth that electric cars are just as dirty as conventional cars because some electricity comes from burning coal. For that reason alone it deserves nothing but scorn.

The Guardian reports the environmental community has reacted with fury at the film. Josh Fox, who made the documentary Gasland, has written a letter signed by various scientists and activists urging the film be removed from the internet because it is “shockingly misleading and absurd” and “trades in debunked fossil fuel industry talking points” that question the affordability and reliability of solar and wind energy.

Climate scientist Michael Mann was one of the people who signed the letter. He tells The Guardian the film includes “various distortions, half-truths and lies” and that the filmmakers “have done a grave disservice to us and the planet by promoting climate change inactivist tropes and talking points.” Bill McKibben says, “I am used to ceaseless harassment and attack from the fossil fuel industry, and I’ve done my best to ignore a lifetime of death threats from rightwing extremists. It does hurt more to be attacked by others who think of themselves as environmentalists.”

There are few people who can say they have done more to bring the issue of an overheating climate to the attention of the world than McKibben, the founder of 350.org, who has been jailed on many occasions for his implacable opposition to the burning of fossil fuels.

Is generated by coal is total BS. It was, and is still a major contributer but the percentage keeps dropping Pretty sure it’s less than 50% nationally though some regions use more than others.

The average share of electricity generated from coal in the US has dropped from 52.8% in 1997 to 27.4% in 2018.[7] In 2017, there were 359 coal-powered units at the electrical utilities across the US, with a total nominal capacity of 256 GW[8] (compared to 1024 units at nominal 278 GW in 2000

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_power_in_the_United_States

So it's interesting that the nominal capacity is basically the same with a third of the plants? So a lot of older smaller coal fired plants were closed but newer plants were more efficient.

There used to be a couple out here in the NW but I think they are all shuttered now. Hydro has always been big out here and wind took off considerably but I’m told the trend is more and more solar powered plants.

climate denier. claims cheap energy built the middle class, and the gnd would be a ball and chain for everyman.

we actually agree on a lot, but he drinks the breitbart, et al, koolaid. we do talk through a lot of stuff, but climate is a hard one. he blathers on w his debunked cts, and i look dumb cuz i have no idea what he is talking about.
but solar and wind we have talked about, because i am dying to add both to my home. i have plenty of wind for roof top small wind, and if it isnt sunny, it's blowing.
so i have some current info on the $$, and his numbers are off my a mile.

the maths are a very fertile ground to battle the idiots.
