Alaska Airlines inks agreement to invest in sustainable jet fuel

Alaska Air Group Inc. said Wednesday it has signed an agreement with SkyNRG Americas under which the SeaTac-based company committed to making investments in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) made from municipal waste.

For now, no money changed hands under the memorandum of understanding, said Diana Birkett Rakow, Alaska Airlines' vice president of public affairs and sustainability.

But Alaska's agreement with Dutch-based SkrNRG's U.S. unit is part of the carrier's long-term effort to cut aircraft pollution while stimulating production of lower-emission aviation fuels and educating the public about their importance.

"This is a critical next step in our long-term plan to reduce carbon emissions and our impact on the planet," Birkett Rakow told the Business Journal.
