(4,380 posts)The escape of pathogens from permafrosts melting the world over is, of course, a concern. Scientists and researchers have found many pathogens in permafrost areas that could become problematic in the environment, especially ones that could unfreeze and quickly mutate from their original genetic makeup and/or pathogens that could quickly jump species from animal to human. They mostly agree that monitoring in those areas where this could most likely naturally occur is the best way to be prepared for the next pandemic, which is not an if but when situation. However, that also says absolutely nothing about the likelihood of lab accidents or outright gain of function testing by mad scientists of any nationality with the ways and means to cover-up and enable the chaos that could follow. No wonder there are so many conspiracy theories that have gone viral (pun intended, lol) in certain population segments in which an infectious fantasy and a suspended belief in science has occurred.
