Fire burning in southwest Colorado grows to 600 acres, forces evacuations

PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A wildfire in southwest Colorado has burned several hundred acres and is still growing, officials said Wednesday

The “Plumtaw Fire,” named for the intersection it is burning near, ignited Tuesday afternoon 7 miles north of Pagosa Springs. By 5 p.m., it had already burned more than 50 acres, and it only swelled from there. As of 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the fire had burned an estimated 613 acres.

The Lost Valley of the San Juans subdivision was ordered to evacuate late Tuesday afternoon. The neighborhood is north of where the fire is burning. There are currently no reports of lost structures.

Currently, firefighters are battling the blaze by ground and by air.
