Chance is high that China will take over global hydrogen electrolyser market similar to solar sector

EXCLUSIVE | 'Chance is high that China will take over global hydrogen electrolyser market in similar way to solar sector': BNEF

Chinese machines cost 75% less than Western equivalents — and are just as efficient, analyst Xiaoting Wang tells Recharge

RechargeNews.com | 2 June 2022 By Leigh Collins

In the mid-2000s, European and Japanese solar panel makers dominated the then-emerging industry — yet within a few years, they were being undercut by a wave of cheaper PV modules emerging en masse from China.

Former market leaders such as Q-Cells, SolarWorld and Isofoton filed for bankruptcy, and by 2011, eight of the world’s top ten solar manufacturers were Chinese.

History may well repeat itself in the emerging world of hydrogen electrolysers, according to research house BloombergNEF.

Today, electrolysis systems using Western equipment cost about $1,200 per kilowatt — compared to $300/kW for systems in China that use local apparatus, according to BNEF figures. But by 2030, both Chinese and Western electrolysis systems would be about $0.10/W (in 2020 prices) — largely a result of Chinese electrolysers being widely available in Europe and the US, says Wang...>>

LONGi Hydrogen wins in the world's largest Green Hydrogen Project

The project can save 485,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year

XI'AN, China, May 12, 2022 -- Only 1 year after its establishment, LONGi Hydrogen wins in the Sinopec Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project, to supply world leading large scale ALK electrolysis equipment. The project is China's first >10,000 ton green hydrogen project and the world's largest green hydrogen project so far.

With a total investment up to RMB 3 billion, this project will build a new 300MW photovoltaic power plant and an electrolytic water hydrogen production plant to generation 618 million kWh green electricity and 20,000 tons green hydrogen per year....>>

While many question whether hydrogen as a fuel should be pursued at all, China builds an electrolyzer the size of a short bus. Solar history repeats itself with H2. Still a chance for the US to lead but the window is closing fast. "Surprise" won't really work, as they have published their intentions to lead in this field for years now.

China became the world's largest emitter of carbon dioxide in 2006 and is now responsible for more than a quarter of the world's overall greenhouse gas emissions.

Did you know that the largest hydrogen truck fleet in the world so far was rolled out in China just a few months ago?

What is the problem with so many on this? And what the hell is "Magical Thinking" ?? Maybe that's when a nation bombs 7 or 8 (or more) other nations for over 20 years and their people still think there are no consequences. Maybe that's "Magical Thinking" ?

Do you think they don't know that they have a problem?

Have you read ANY of their 5 year plans? Very very few Americans even know that China publishes 5 year national future plans - SINCE 1949. What are the 5 year plans of the US, besides war, hegemony and destruction? Gee maybe the US could stop being obsessed with giving multi-billion dollar war toy makers more and more money. So far, that seems to be the only thing resembling a 5 year plan for the US.

Any idea AT ALL what the carbon cost is for all the bombing and invading the US has done just over the last 20 years? How much C02 was released when Libya was destroyed? Or Serbia? Ever ask that question, exceptional American? Jesus.

China Unveils its First Long-Term Hydrogen Plan
March 28, 2022

On March 23, the Chinese government released the country’s first-ever long-term plan for hydrogen, covering the period of 2021–2035. The plan laid out a phased approach to developing a domestic hydrogen industry and mastering technologies and manufacturing capabilities, while pointing to the country’s carbon peaking and neutrality commitments as an overarching driver...https://www.csis.org/analysis/china-unveils-its-first-long-term-hydrogen-plan

That was on top of the last few 5 year plans that included hydrogen and also other ways to clean up their air. But most are completely clueless about it all.

Did you know how China makes hydrogen at a thermodynamic loss using dangerous fossil fuels and dumping the waste into the planetary atmosphere?

If one cannot face reality, it's magical thinking. If no amount of information can change one's mind, it's magical thinking.

Thirty years ago, almost all of the world's hydrogen was made by reforming dangerous natural gas and dumping carbon dioxide into the planetary atmosphere, driving climate change. Then China entered the picture, with this result:

Magical thinking would be cute if it was just carny barker three card Monty games played for fun, but regrettably in this case it's far worse than that.

Not using fossil fuels to create H2 and then using H2 to replace fossil fuels in urban buses.

In my mind that would easily be a net positive.

I used to be as badly educated - as dumb - as some people here.

Here's an example of me writing about the subject 12 years ago: Neodymium Nickelate High Temperature Electrolysis of Water In Solid Oxide Cells.

Then again, I don't chant. I work very hard to be educated, continuously.

While their thermodynamics has improved, electrolyzers are still devices for wasting energy because all the wishful thinking in the world cannot undo the 2nd law, which pretty much rules the universe.

Most of the electricity on this planet - stupid rhetoric aside that makes people waste electricity by pretending it all comes from the useless so called "renewable energy" fantasy - is made by the combustion of dangerous fossil fuels.

Here are the thermodynamic transitions, each at a loss of energy, that go into the stupid idea of using electricity to generate hydrogen:

Primary chemical energy - dangerous fossil fuels - is converted to thermal energy, at a thermodynamic loss, thermal energy is converted to mechanical energy by the steam turbine, at a thermodynamic loss, the steam turbine turns a generator to convert the mechanical energy to electrical energy, at a friction and thermodynamic loss, the thermally degraded electricity is transported over wires produced by mining copper to an electrolysis cell which converts electrochemical energy back to chemical energy at a thermodynamic loss involving pumps, compression and, in the worst case, liquefaction.

If people actually looked at reality instead of chanting and pretending that electricity is "green" because they spend their days worshipping nonsensical pictures of wind turbines and solar cells just like medieval people used to contemplate pictures of an Italian girl dressed up like the Virgin Mary, we might have some hope for a clean world.

Instead, they just post the idiot pictures and pretend they're connected with reality. They're not.

Reality:

June 02: 421.64 ppm
June 01: 421.94 ppm
May 31: 421.83 ppm
May 30: 421.57 ppm
May 29: 421.74 ppm
Last Updated: June 3, 2022

Recent Daily Average Mauna Loa CO2

People think prayer saves lives; it's not particularly different to claim that pictures of electrolyzers and wind turbines and solar cells save the environment. Neither is true. Both are nothing more than faith.

There are reasons that 200 years after the discovery of electrolysis, it remains a trivial source of hydrogen. The reasons are thermodynamic, and, closely related to thermodynamics, economic and environmental.

These things matter.

If people want to fall on their knees and worship, there's nothing that can be done about it. Even though I have better things to do, but let me help them in their uselessness:
