Flooding, mudslides force rare closure of Yellowstone - Reuters



Record flooding, mudslides and falling rocks following a burst of heavy rainfall prompted the rare closure of all five entrances to Yellowstone National Park at the start of the summer tourist season. 06/14/2022.

Downriver! I went down to the bridge that washed out today. It's bad all the way down the valley. And you can't get past the 19mm on US89 any because the bridge there is going to be out for a while, the north embankment is eroded away for several feet. There were truckloads of riprap arriving, I watched from an overlook across the river. It was waaaaay out of its banks and flooded fields, crossed the hwy in several places.

Seeing this, I can't possibly imagine they'd be open to tourists again in the matter of a few days, this is major damage - roads, homes and the river banks are gone! This damage is major - and I'd think it's lasting...

Stay safe out there! A bridge washing out requires major rebuilding.
