India Education Diary | Jan 28, 2023

Ahmedabad : India’s leading clean energy-run advanced mobility company, Triton Electric Vehicle to manufacture Hydrogen-powered trucks from its Bhuj, Gujarat manufacturing plant. These trucks will be hybrid heavy vehicles which will be produced for Indian roads as well as for International markets. With this announcement, Triton became the first Indian automobile company to enter this category.

Triton’s entry into hydrogen-powered vehicles was announced in August 2022 with the announcement of Triton Hydrogen-Run Two-Wheelers and Triton Hydrogen Busses.

The hydrogen-powered hybrid vehicles will be the top priority for Triton, as it has a sustainable roadmap.

With today’s announcement of Hydrogen Powered Trucks, Triton’s commitment towards clean tech and clean energy reaches new heights. This announcement gives Triton an early movers advantage in the space of heavy vehicles with hydrogen fuel capabilities...more

India- the next hydrogen superpower - regardless of what hydrogen bashers say. Not a single person there (or in China) cares what anyone else around the world thinks of H2

Nikola Launches First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck Mobile Fueler

Nikola Motor | January 18, 2023

PHOENIX –January 18, 2023 -- Nikola Corporation (Nasdaq: NKLA), a global leader in zero-emission transportation and energy supply and infrastructure solutions, announced that it has developed an innovative, heavy-duty, 700 bar (10,000 psi) hydrogen mobile fueler capable of direct fueling hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).

Nikola’s mobile fueler program includes its own mobile fuelers as well as a number of third party mobile fuelers, which will provide Nikola’s customers with a variety of flexible fueling options.

“Nikola has spent the greater part of two years developing a flexible mobile fueling solution which cools and compresses hydrogen to rapidly fill 700 bar FCEV heavy-duty trucks,” said Nikola Corporation President and CEO, Michael Lohscheller. “Coupled with Nikola’s hydrogen tube trailer, with a capacity of 960 kg, Nikola’s mobile fueler can refuel customer trucks back-to-back. This will deliver flexible hydrogen fueling solutions for our customers starting in 2023 and will complement Nikola’s permanent hydrogen fueling stations which are being developed.”...more

HYLA

When many truck stops sell hydrogen only those with time to waste will be spending a good portion of their lives sitting at a charging station.

straight to hydrogen.

And India can not worry about having to cater to hypocritical Western demands about CO2 reductions.

Refuelling times is irrelevant, wont be much.

The article mentioned that Nicola did not mention how much the cost/kg of their mobile delivered hydrogen would be but that it would come from clean sources only and be cheaper then the hydrogen being sold in CA. I want to see them pull that off. I'll bet you a2 buck it will be grey hydrogen (it would cleaner to use the natural gas to power the trucks then convert it to hydrogen. There is no way green hydrogen is going to be cheaper then the mix being sold in CA.

"The strategic mission of HYLA at Nikola is to secure supplies of clean hydrogen and then to distribute it to our customers at very competitive prices,” said Carey Mendes, president of the company’s energy unit. “It will, of course, support not only our vehicles … but it's also going to support every other manufacturer of hydrogen-powered vehicles who are going to need this in the future.”

The Phoenix-based company is on track to start production of fuel cell trucks for commercial customers this year, CEO and president Michael Lohscheller said via a webcast on Wednesday. Nikola has also developed mobile fueling units to support initial customers but plans to have 60 hydrogen stations up and running by 2026.

The updates come as it struggles to win back investor support since founder Trevor Milton was accused of lying about its technology in 2020 and found guilty of fraud last year."

"Nikola aspired to be the Tesla of the trucking industry — both companies took their name from Nikola Tesla, a pioneer in developing alternating-current technology. Nikola planned to build trucks that would be powered by emission-free hydrogen fuel cells. The company would build a network of hydrogen fueling stations along major highways, much as Tesla built a network of charging stations.

During the trial, prosecutors played video interviews in which Mr. Milton claimed Nikola was already producing “green” hydrogen with renewable energy for less than the cost of diesel, a major milestone. “Game is over for diesel,” Mr. Milton said on Twitter.

In fact, Nikola had produced “not one molecule” of hydrogen, Ms. Estes said. Others in the fledgling green hydrogen industry are still struggling to produce the gas cheaply enough to undercut diesel.
