Went looking for another link...

Since the OP link is behind walls.

My understanding is that all electrical grids would be fried. Sci-fi has a little “love affair” with this scenario, there have been many stories with total grid wipeout as a starting point. Whatever the reality would be it would be brutal. We depend on electricity in some form for most of our daily lives.
There was an equipment failure the other day here in Hale, the town was out of electricity for approximately an hour and a half, whatta mess. It wasn’t even a destructive failure, cell tower went down, no internet, stores couldn’t ring up anything, gas pumps didn’t work. Thank god we only have the one stop light and traffic was still slightly hazardous at the intersection.

90 minutes to make you realize how fragile it all is.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.

Tell me more...
