As the 40th anniversary of Chornobyl approaches, I will no longer be calling it "Chernobyl" in my writings.

I saw this note from the Ukrainian pronuclear group "WePlanet" and will respect it.

Editors note: Chornobyl is the official Ukrainian transliteration of the city and disaster site, reflecting the correct Ukrainian spelling (Чорнобил ), while Chernobyl is the Russian-derived spelling used internationally during the Soviet era.

I will not, of course, be able to avoid the Russian transliteration in text that I quote.

Consideration of Chornobyl played, as it did for Serhii Kurykin, the most important role in my "transmutation" from antinuke to pronuclear activist, since it established, for all time, the worst case for a nuclear powerplant failure, which is trivial when compared to the odious environmental impact not only of dangerous fossil fuels, about which antinukes couldn't care less, but also the unsustainable environmental impact of the so called "renewable energy" industry, which was created, largely, not to express outrage about fossil fuels, but rather to attack nuclear energy.
