Landlocked Midwest Farmers Raise Saltwater Shrimp (Illinois)

http://www.npr.org/2013/03/27/175438949/landlocked-midwest-farmers-raise-saltwater-shrimp

Shrimp is the number one seafood product in the United States. While most shrimp is imported from Asia or Ecuador, some is being raised indoors in the Midwest. The challenge is to simulate an ocean environment in a barn or other structure.

This is an interview I was listening to this on NPR this morning. Apparently the farmer has converted a grain silo to raise shrimp. It's an interesting exercise in local food production, but they do mention that they cost $18/lb to produce profitably.

a victim of the crash, they tore down an old time movie theater to build a 5 story apt building. poured a foundation, then went broke.
i think they should build a one or 2 story fish farm/rooftop farm. i see big tank windows and benches on the sidewalk.
shrimp would be awesome.
