Related: About this forumFirst turbine installed at giant offshore wind farm (576 MW, UK)
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/business/business-news/first-siemens-turbine-installed-rwe-3867047THE FIRST of 160 wind turbines has been installed at the huge Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm eight miles off the North Wales coast.
With a planned capacity of 576 megawatts (MW) Gwynt y Môr is one of the largest offshore wind farms currently in construction in Europe and is the largest project by RWE npower renewables.
The installation of the turbine marks a major milestone in the construction of the £2bn wind farm which, once fully operational, will be capable of generating enough energy from the wind to power around a third of the total number of households in Wales.
The 3.6 megawatt (MW) Siemens turbine was fitted in Liverpool Bay, using the SeaJack vessel.

(38,437 posts)1. If one of the blades from a fast turbine were to break off while spinning at full speed ...
... would the blade leave the earth's gravitational pull and maybe get wedged in the moon?

I worry more about the cancer this wind turbine will cause.

when a giant blade can be whisked by the wind up to a mile away!
