The American dream vs the Fracking "boom"

I am seeing this up close and personnel.

Drilling vs the American Dream: Fracking impacts on property rights and home values

There are currently more than 1.1 million active oil and gas wells in the U.S., and more than 15 million Americans now live within a mile of the hundreds of thousands that have been drilled since 2000, according to an analysis by the Wall Street Journal. Made possible by the advent of fracking, drilling is taking place in shale formations from California to New York and from Wyoming to Texas.
...
...in most parts of the country, the legal doctrine of split estates allows one party to own the rights to minerals and other resources below the surface while someone else hold the rights to property above ground. With the oil and gas industry showing little self-restraint and drilling encroaching into cities, towns and suburbs, split estates have left millions to deal with problems such as increased truck traffic, chemicals, lights, noise, heavy equipment, noxious air emissions and water—all without any compensation.

to me since I live in Central Texas. While our political heroes love to tout our improving economy, jobs, etc. that are based on the fracking boom in our area, they also ignore the dirty air, tremendous amount of water used, and constant threat to our environment.
I find it ironic that Texans seem to think that "property rights" are a conservative issue. Nothing could be farther from the truth - money is the acid test for just about anything and we easily turn our heads to any danger present of in the future.

It is rather simple to get elected in a Red State - God, Guns, Gays, AntiObama rhetoric is sure victory with very little effort involved. They get into power and continue to talk this trash while all the while continuing their corporate interest under the table.

How long can this insanity last?
