Gulf of Mexico residents hail ruling against BP

http://www.thenewstribune.com/2014/09/05/3362798/gulf-of-mexico-residents-hail.html?sp=/99/261/

In this June 15, 2010 file photo, a member of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal's staff wearing a glove reaches into thick oil on the surface of the northern regions of Barataria Bay in Plaquemines Parish, La. U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier ruled Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, in New Orleans, La., that BP acted recklessly and bears most of the responsibility for the oil spill. The ruling exposes BP to about $18 million in civil fines under the Clean Water Act.

NEW ORLEANS — Environmentalists, recreational fishermen and people who make their living on the Gulf of Mexico are hailing a federal judge's ruling that could mean $18 billion in additional fines for BP over the nation's worst offshore oil spill.

Lisa Smith cheered and gave an emphatic "yes" Thursday afternoon when she heard about the decision as she fished off a beach bridge in Florida.

"BP should have to pay, they've done a lot of damage," Smith said.

In the town of Lafitte, Louisiana, David Robin said he hopes the oil company pays dearly, money that would not only mitigate damage from the spill, but also help restore Louisiana wetlands lost to erosion that experts blame in part on coastal oil and gas activity.

saying its conduct was negligent and reckless -

GOOD!!!!

Now to make sure BP actually pays the fines....it has evaded payment of other court ordered costs so far.

... they immediately throw BP a lifeline with dumb shit like this:

> he hopes the oil company pays dearly, money that would not only mitigate damage
> from the spill, but also help restore Louisiana wetlands lost to erosion that experts
> blame in part on coastal oil and gas activity.

Instant (and justified) appeal material.

Just keep your dumb mouth shut and get the money INTO the system before blabbing
about how you are going to redirect it ...

Open up a different court case that prosecutes ALL of the oil & gas companies for that
(non-Deepwater Horizon) damage but get the BP money (*) to undo the pollution from
the event for which they were found responsible.

(*) "BP money" as it is primarily BP funding it with a bit of help from the rig operators (Transocean)
and SFA from US government's master who actually did the substandard cementing job (Halliburton).
