Don’t take this the wrong way: Beyoncé is newsworthy. Most of the things she does deserve national attention.

The health of our planet and its oceans are important too. Yet, media outlets aren’t giving Mother Earth the coverage she deserves.

In a new study, the Project for Improved Environmental Coverage looked at the amount of ink 33 news outlets devoted to Beyoncé compared with the coverage they gave to 10 broad environmental topics. The results weren’t pretty. “Stories mentioning Beyoncé were more than 11 times more common than stories mentioning deforestation and more than five times more common than stories mentioning ocean health as a topic area,” the study found.
