U.S. House committee approves anti-GMO labeling law

BY CAREY GILLAM

U.S. food companies and other opponents of genetically modified food labeling notched a key victory on Tuesday as the House Agriculture Committee approved a measure banning mandatory labeling as well as local efforts to regulate genetically engineered crops.

The move demonstrates fresh momentum for those seeking to block mandated labeling of foods made with GMO crops, food industry advocates said.

“This... legislation will ensure that Americans have accurate, consistent information about their food rather than a 50 state patchwork of labeling laws that will only prove costly and confusing for consumers, farmers and food manufacturers," said Pamela Bailey, CEO of the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), said in a statement.

The group called on the full House of Representatives to pass the measure, which the panel approved in a voice vote, before the August recess.

Groups lobbying for mandatory GMO labeling said they are increasing their efforts to make sure that H.R. 1599, dubbed the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, never becomes law.

Note: It's a bill, but that's what the Reuters headline says.

I'm just a bill
Yes, I'm only a bill
And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill
Well, it's a long, long journey
To the capital city
It's a long, long wait
While I'm sitting in committee
But I know I'll be a law someday
At least I hope and pray that I will
But today I am still just a bill

2. It's stupid allowing people to know what they are eating. Labels that just say "Food" is all that

really should be required on all packaging. Naturally, to avoid a lot of red tape the definition of "food" will need to be worked out by the GMA.

without labels every time you bring groceries home could be like an episode of "Chopped"

"Okay, open the mystery basket..."

Or as Marie Antoinette would say is she were alive today: "Let them eat whatever the hell that is and don't tell them because they are better off not knowing!"

5. Your point really puts the lie to the ignoramuses who think that people are better off knowing what

they are eating.

Sure, maybe what you are eating seems like Ramen noodles and croutons that were flattened by an errant drum of high fructose corn syrup, but it might be a fancy upscale dessert prepared by a master french pastry chef. You just never know.

And Yes, you might be eating an as-of-yet unidentified neo emergent fish species found near Fukushima, or you might be eating high end sushi prepared an expert sushi chef. Who is to say?

The breadth of your culinary choices will be limited only by your imagination, unless the whiners advocating for food labels get their way.

> U.S. House committee approves anti-GMO labeling law

It is *not* an "anti-GMO labelling law" (bill), it *is* an "anti-GMO-labelling law" (bill).

The difference between the two is 180 degrees apart so stop LYING Reuters!

The Monsanto Rubber Stamp Committee are traitors to America and humanity
in general.

Ms Pamela Bailey can shove her lies up her arse and so can the slimy scum who
pretend that a bill to ensure that Americans are poisoned without noticing should
be called "the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act" ...
