Related: About this forumMass dolphin rescue video stuns
Somedays, it's hard to be a dedicated misanthrope.
A dramatic video showing 30 beached dolphins being rescued by beachgoers in Brazil has become an internet sensation.
The video shows dolphins appearing out of nowhere and suddenly beaching en masse on the Rio de Janeiro state coastline. They were apparently caught in a strong ocean current.
Stunned beachgoers in swimming trunks at first look on as the dolphins high-pitched squeals are heard. But within seconds, people quickly race into the surf to help the dolphins.
Dozens of people are seen swimming into the ocean and dragging the mammals by their tails in an effort to get them back into deeper waters.

Really, I'm just sure that the Pod-leader is going to be forced to watch this on youtube over and over while the others just whistle and click his ass into shame. "Dude... HUMANS had to help you? They can't help shit!".
If a bunch of Dolphins are watching youtube, does that make them an 'I-Pod'?

96 of them died in January 2012 in Massachusetts alone.

Anyway....enough of my griping. At least I know all of us here would have jumped right to the front.
I'm glad those sweet creatures were safe!!!!

(1,595 posts)The "strong ocean current" theory just doesn't sound correct to me, given the speed with which the dolphins swam toward the shore.

(17,505 posts)The dolphins were trying to warn the humans to use sunscreen, but got too close.

(62,536 posts)...I could almost swear that I saw a bunch of tiny fish jumping out of the water.
It looked like the tide was going out, to me, but I can't be sure on that, would need to dig up a tides calculator for that day and location.

What is really interesting is the dolphins don't struggle against the people trying to help. They let them drag them back out to the ocean without struggling against them.

(5,214 posts)I too would try to get out of a life in the water because of all the filth and crap we dump into it. However, the land will soon be as bad/worse as the oceans at the rate we are screwing it up!
