Lodestar’s Poll: Three possible responses to rising waters

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1127&pid=93782
Engineers say there are three possible responses to rising waters: undertake coastal defense projects; adapt with actions like raising roads and buildings; or abandon land to the sea. Lacking a national strategy, the United States applies these measures haphazardly. If you lived on the coastline, had a business there or other interest, which policy would you choose?

In the long run the sea will win, no matter how hard we fight it.

I know people who left for good and others who went back to rebuild.
I certainly understand that sense of place. Particularly such a unique
community as can be found in New Orleans. And who knows how long
it will be before the rising sea makes it unlivable.

I don't live on the water so really can't
say how I'd respond. It might take a couple of mini disasters to scare
me off, but I do think it wouldn't take me long to give it up to nature
and move inland.
