John McCain urges allies to stand by Trump's US during 'troubled times'

Arizona senior senator says reputation of US suffered during early
months of Trump administration as scandals hit White House

Donald Trump’s administration is mired in scandal, senior republican senator John McCain has said, but he urged America’s allies to stand by the nation as it navigates “troubled times”.

In a speech in Sydney, Australia, McCain said the US remained the most important country on Earth, and the global defender of “truth over falsehood”.

McCain also used the speech to launch a swingeing attack on China, accusing the emerging superpower of bullying other countries, stealing intellectual property and making illegal territorial claims in the South China Sea.

McCain, the decorated war veteran, senior senator from Arizona and former Republican presidential candidate, said many of America’s allies were fairly questioning the direction and reliability of Trump’s administration.

Cooperation is and always has been a two-way street, and repeated bad actions from one will invariably foster corrective actions from others. A nice wordy gesture there, John McCain. However in the current real geopolitical universe it would be difficult to impossible for anyone to "stand by" this unfolding train wreck. The only practical solution for restoring confidence is to remove from office the mentally unfit corrupt lying buffoon masquerading as president.

You bounce more than a rubber ball. Which/what allies? The ones we no longer fucking have or the new ones who have hated us for just about forever and want to see us fall but in the meantime make themselves rich and trump and his damn family rich? Are you to stupid to notice we no longer have decent allies?

The onus is not on the allies. Maybe if McCain spent more time following through on the things he says instead of towing the line for party bullshit, people would take him seriously.

His words are empty and he upsets me more than any of the others, because he speaks out and then stands by and does nothing as his country slips away. He's a god damn joke.

He's basically admitting that he knows that Trump is dangerous and making the world less safe, but he continues to do NOTHING at home to stand up to him.

There are plenty of Republicans who don't have a clue. That's no excuse, but it doesn't change the fact that they are lost causes. McCain can't say that. He's well aware of the problem. Is he really worried about his 2022 re-election (when he'll be 86)??

The citizens of the US and the free world need more than words. Show us you care Senator. It's unfortunate , but I'm afraid you have to earn our trust. Not easy to say about someone I consider a hero and a patriot. But there we are.
