Singapore-based investor Jim Rogers to visit North Korea next month

SEOUL (KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Jim Rogers, a renowned investor and chairman of Rogers Holdings, plans to visit North Korea next month at the invitation of its leader Kim Jong Un, according to sources on Tuesday (Feb 12).

The Singapore-based investor, who once said he would "put all of my money" in North Korea if he could, received the United States government's approval for the trip with his wife.

The billionaire has touted North Korea, which has a gross domestic product per capita of US$1,800 (S$2,440), as an attractive investment destination for five years, even before the thawing of inter-Korean relations last year.

Jim Rogers had a great investment track record. When his partner was George Soros. After that, not so good.

...maybe that's just his entree to get the visa. They own a property in Kumgansan, I think it's been closed since 2008 or so when a South Korean tourist was shot in the North Korean resort area.

There are hundreds of South Korean business executives trying to get permission to get back into North Korea, but since the US started to complain about their cross border delegations and set up the negotiations working group with Stephen Biegun, they've been put on hold.
