Burning of Quran and republication of Charlie Hebdo cartoons rile Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Iranian Public Culture Council, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, condemned the French magazine Charlie Hebdo for republishing cartoons insulting the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH).

In a statement released on Sunday, the secretariat of the Public Culture Council of Iran condemned the French satirical magazine's move to insult Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by republishing offensive cartoons.

The Iranian council also denounced the "bitter and heinous" action from 'a group of malicious ignorant ill-wishers' in Sweden to burn a copy of the Holy Quran, saying such insults reveal the extent of their hostility towards Islam, IFP News reported.

The statement has also emphasized that such sacrilegious moves will not only harm Islam and the holy character of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), but also lays bare the frustration of enemies and their failure to engage in logical discourse.

Islamic clerics have no right attempting to enforce their beliefs on people who do not share them. I would consider it rude and discourteous to speak disparagingly of Mohamed to a believer, but he has no more right to insist I refrain from doing so than a believer in Christ would have. Push it far enough, I am quite capable of leaving off guiding my behavior by politeness.

In short, these people can fuck off, and grow up to realize the world contains a great variety of people, most of whom do not share their religious views, and learn to live with that.
