Romanian families protest mandatory use of masks in school

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Several hundred Romanians, including many families with young children, protested Saturday in the country’s capital against measures to curb the spread of coronavirus, especially social distancing and the mandatory use of masks in schools.

Like other countries in Europe, the number of new virus cases has spiked in recent days in Romania, with a record 1,713 cases earlier this week and 1,333 more on Saturday. In all, Romania has registered 111,550 cases of COVID-19, with 4,402 confirmed deaths.

Some 2.8 million Romanian schoolchildren began their academic year on Monday, with classes being held in classrooms, online or a combination of the two, depending on the intensity of the pandemic in a given region. Desks have to be at least one meter apart, masks must be worn by students and teachers at the primary school level or higher and classrooms are disinfected daily.

Protesters at Bucharest’s University Square chanted against President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Ludovic Orban and drew parallels between the protective measures against the pandemic and the communist and Nazi regimes. One of the speakers at the rally compared the measures to the torture of dissidents during communism.

to protect ourselves from stupid people... and to protect stupid people from each other.

My girlfriend is currently in Romania... her daughter is going back to school in a week (she is online at the moment), the class size is only 12 classmates, mask wearing is mandatory, sessions are half day only (no food service at school). I got them N95 masks to wear for both the daughter... and her mom daughter wears one at school, drops in the trash when she gets home, mom puts hers on indoors when her daughter gets home and can only take it off once she is in her bedroom at night. They are both on 3000 IU of Vitamin D plus vitamin C and a zinc tablet once a day.

She will drive her daughter to school and pick her up every day (no public transportation).

The case load there has picked up dramatically from earlier this summer... 150 a day back then to 1400 a day just now.

Thousands of Romanians were working in northern Italy last spring when the virus spread unchecked through the region... and they were all sent back to Romania.

I hope the vaccine is ready for them early next year. I so want this horrible year to be over.

If they get sick from Covid-19, I have told my girlfriend to go to a doctor and get a dose of calcitriol and Dexamethasone, and if they get worse, try very hard to get remdesivir.

These three drugs have all had decent sized studies to justify using them against Covid-19.

The first two are well known and inexpensive with little to no side effects.

Wearing a mask also reduces the initial virus load... which gives your body a fighting chance to develop an immune response naturally... and without the overreaction that is often more deadly than the virus.
