US President Donald Trumps senior adviser will visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar this week. The Trump administration is making several Middle East policy-related pushes before President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January.
Jared Kushner will meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Reuters reported on Sunday.
It is unclear what Kushner, who is also Trumps son-in-law, will discuss with the two Gulf leaders. The timing of the visit comes shortly after Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed. Both the United States and Israel believe Iran is seeking to build a nuclear weapon, which Iran denies. Iran has already blamed Israel and the United States for the killing. Saudi Arabia is also a staunch opponent of Irans policy in the region.
Kushner will be joined by the US envoy for international negotiations Avi Berkowitz and former Iran envoy Brian Hook, according to the US government-funded Radio Free Europe. US International Development Finance Corporation head Adam Boehler will also reportedly attend.

(3,035 posts)The Saudis et. al. know that Daddy Don is a lame duck. Maybe junior can assure them if they get caught in the cross fire between the Iranians and Israelis we'll help them but beyond that, pretty much impotent. I doubt the Iranians will be so foolish as to respond violently in the next six weeks and give Trump an excuse for one last pretend action as a leader. The Iranians are no different than the Israelis, they will lay in wait years to exact revenge. I am actually surprised Trump is even playing in this. May be Kushner sort of off on his own thinking he has some future in national politics. Seems unlikely, but we had Trump and crazy for 4 years, who know what yahoo can be elected going forward?
