How did Taiwan become embroiled in Haitis political crisis?

A break-in at Taiwans embassy in Haiti following the assassination of the Haitian president has put a spotlight on the Asian high-tech hubs connections to the Caribbean nation.
Haiti has become an increasingly important ally of Taiwan, as other governments have switched their diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China. Beijing, meanwhile, has kept a close eye on the Haiti-Taiwan relationship.
What happened at the Taiwanese Embassy in Haiti?
A group of people in full military gear broke into Taiwans embassy in Haiti on Thursday morning, following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, Taiwanese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou said Friday. Haitian police arrested 11 armed suspects, described as mercenaries by Taipei.
The embassy had closed on Wednesday for security reasons after Moïses killing, so the facility was largely empty when the intruders broke in, Ou said. Embassy security discovered the breach and phoned staff and the Haitian police.
